NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 35-year-old woman was found dead inside of her Lower East Side apartment with the suspected killer barricaded inside on Saturday night, police said.
Cops were responding to the Chrystie Street building after neighbors called when hearing the victim’s scream for help just after 4 a.m., police said.
The suspect allegedly followed the woman into the building and to her apartment before attacking her and barricading himself inside covered in blood, authorities said. It is not clear if the woman knew the attacker.
Police said the man briefly attempted to flee the scene through the fire escape but then went back inside.
After an hour and 15 minute ordeal, officers were able to enter the apartment where they found the woman in the bathroom with trauma throughout her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The unidentified man was taken into custody and the investigation remains ongoing.
