Woman, 27, robbed of $10K in jewelry by group in SUV on SI

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a group of suspects wanted in a jewelry scam that occurred on a Staten Island street earlier this month.

It was reported to police that on Monday, Feb. 6, at approximately 1:10 p.m. in the vicinity of Victory Boulevard and Carmel Avenue in Mid Island.

According to officials, a white SUV containing five suspects pulled up to a 27-year-old woman and engaged her in a brief conversation. A woman in the rear of the vehicle asked to see her jewelry.

The victim complied, and was later handed back a piece of jewelry, which she believed to be her jewelry being returned. After the individuals left the scene, the victim realized that she had been provided fake jewelry instead of her property back.

The value of the property stolen is approximately $10,000, the NYPD said.

The first suspect is a man approximately in his late 30s to early 40s, officials said.

The second suspect was last seen wearing a baseball cap.

The third suspect is described as a woman in her late 30s to early 40s.

The fourth and fifth suspects are described as females approximately 15-years-old.
