According to police, a 21-year-old Orthodox Jewish woman was standing at the corner of Ross Street and Bedford Avenue when a dark-colored car drove up and a back-seat passenger lowered their window and displayed what appeared to be a weapon before discharging it.
Officials described the the rounds she was struck with as beads of some sort.
The NYPD said the wig absorbed the blow, and she was not injured in the incident.
The suspects fled, and so far no arrests have been made.
An investigation remains ongoing.
