BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A Long Island man accused of fatally stabbing his wife and 2-year-old daughter last month was indicted on murder charges Monday in the "senseless" killings, prosecutors said.
Zanoor Jaffari, 31, allegedly stabbed his wife, Misbah Batool, 33, and their daughter, Aiza, at the family's home in Brentwood on July 30.
According to the indictment, officers responding to 911 calls at the home on Jefferson Avenue that afternoon found Jaffari with blood on his clothes and a knife believed to be the murder weapon.
His wife and daughter were found unconscious and bleeding with multiple stab wounds, according to the court docs. They were pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.
Jaffari was arraigned Monday on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.
Suffolk D.A. Raymond Tierney said in a statement that Jaffari "senselessly took the life of his wife and defenseless two-year-old daughter, leaving both their family and the community devastated."
"Deadly domestic violence typically does not just happen overnight," the district attorney said. "It escalates over time, and, as seen here, can become lethal."
Jaffari was held without bail and is due back in court on Oct. 5.
