MELVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was fatally struck by a car and a Hummer while walking in the middle lane of the Long Island Expressway on Sunday evening, Suffolk County Police said Monday.

The victim was driving a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound on the expressway around 7 p.m. when he pulled over to the side of the road just west of Exit 50 in Melville.

He got out of his vehicle and walked onto the middle lane of the highway, where he was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

He was then hit by a 2007 Hummer, according to police.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has been withheld pending the notification of his family.

It wasn’t immediately known why he walked onto the highway.

The drivers of the Chevy and Hummer, both men in their 40s, remained at the scene and were not injured.

The Chevy and Hummer were impounded for safety checks, police said.
