EWING, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A southern New Jersey school district closed schools Tuesday after the gunman who fatally shot three students and critically injured five others at Michigan State University on Monday night before taking his own life was found with a note threatening two schools in the district.
Ewing Public Schools said all schools would close out of an "abundance of caution." The day-long closure applies to both students and staff.
Ewing Township Police said the gunman, 43-year-old Anthony McRae, had ties to the Ewing area but had not lived there "for several years."

Police said they were notified about McRae's threats by authorities in Michigan, but they have not yet specified which two schools were included.
"An investigation revealed that McRae had a history of mental health issues," Ewing police said. "As the investigation continued, and out of an abundance of caution, the Ewing Public Schools were closed for the day. Officers from Ewing and surrounding agencies were stationed at each closed public school as well as other schools in the township."
However, police noted that there is "no threat to Ewing Schools."
It is anticipated that all Ewing schools will reopen on Wednesday.
