NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Dr. Anthony Fauci isn't just sought out for his wisdom on infectious diseases -- apparently, his culinary expertise is just as highly regarded.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was invited by the Congregation Beth El synagogue in Bethesda, Maryland to weigh in on a Jewish culinary debate: Which is better? The Hanukkah staple of latkes (potato pancakes), or the fruit-filled pastry called hamantaschen, eaten during the holiday of Purim.

"I am delighted to weigh on this year's debate of the virtues of latkes versus hamantaschen," Brooklyn-born Fauci says in a video obtained by Tablet magazine's Yair Rosenberg. "While my wife and I enjoy both of these traditional foods, my vote is for latkes -- with applesauce or sour cream. Preferably sour cream."

He concluded his video message, not surprisingly, with a reminder to wear a mask. "I wish all of you a Happy Hanukkah," he said, "and please continues to wear a mask, stay safe and be well."
