Nearly 3 dozen cats rescued from 'deplorable' LI home: Nassau SPCA

NORTH BELLMORE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Nearly three dozen cats were rescued from a Long Island home on Monday, where conditions were said to be “deplorable.”

According to the Nassau County SPCA, crews rescued the 30 animals from a home on Washington Boulevard in North Bellmore.

Nassau County SPCA president Gary Rogers, in a statement to WCBS-TV, said the conditions inside the home were “horrible.”

“When we went in, the ammonia levels were so high, for health reasons we had to leave. The fire marshal had to come to ventilate the house,” Rogers added.

Video from the scene showed crews removing crate after crate of cats or various ages. It remains unclear how long the cats were kept in the home.

The SPCA said taking care of the rescued felines will be costly and asked for donations on its Facebook page.

There were no reports of any arrests or charges as of Tuesday afternoon.
