Trent Collier, a 56-year-old who worked for the New Jersey Department of Children and Family Services’ Division of Child Protection and Permanency, was arrested after authorities searched his cell phone when he arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport from the Dominican Republic on Sept. 28, 2021.
When they searched his phone, they found at least two child pornography images. A further investigation found text messages in which he tried to pay a minor for sex between Jun 19, 2021 and Sept. 29, 2021.
He was indicted on possession and transportation of child pornography charges and attempted sex trafficking of a minor in a Newark federal court on Thursday.
The two child pornography charges each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if found guilty of the sex trafficking charge.
