The corrections officer was attacked by Kelvin Jamison at the Hudson County Jail on Saturday around 9:36 p.m., officials said.

Jamison, who was locked up on domestic violence and weapons charges awaiting trial, sucker punched the officer who was escorting a nurse during medication rounds. After hitting the officer, Jamison then stole his radio and the officer’s control panel keys before opening nine cell doors, authorities said.

According to a criminal complaint filed, some of the inmates left their cells and went to the facility’s day room.

Jamison ended up going back to the officer, who was unconscious, to kick and beat him. The officer was later taken to Jersey City Medical Center with a concussion, ear laceration and facial contusions, officials said.

The 22-year-old attacker was initially arrested in February in a domestic violence incident and on a fugitive-from-justice charge. Jamison was also charged with beating another inmate with his fists and a broomstick back in April.

Jamison now faces new charges which include attempted murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
