First announced in 2018, the New Jersey Hall of Fame was set to open its first permanent location at the East Rutherford mega mall in 2020 but two years later, the project still hadn’t come to fruition, until recently.

The NJHOF announced they were making some significant progress toward completion on Monday, securing a location for the 10,000 square foot interactive entertainment and learning center.

“NJHOF at American Dream will be one of the ultimate symbols of Jersey pride where we will be able to celebrate who we are as a people; where we can take pride in our Jersey grit; and where we can all, including our children, be inspired to realize our highest and best sense of selves,” the hall said in a statement.

Though their initial groundbreaking ceremony was in 2018, the hall will celebrate another time, actually breaking ground, this spring and is set to have a ribbon cutting ceremony at the location—adjacent to Nickelodeon Universe and Dreamworks Waterpark—this fall.

“Our signature artifact will be the Model T that Henry Ford gifted to Thomas Edison in 1933,” the hall said. “This entertainment and learning center will also include a Model T/fly me to the moon simulator, a holographic karaoke stage, a late-night Jersey television studio, and several exhibits that will convey the story of Jersey Greatness in all walks of life.”

Inducting its first class in 2008, the NJHOF features the likes of some of the Garden State’s most inspirational figures, including Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Toni Morrison, Jon Bon Jovi, Judy Blume, and Danny Devito.
