Wall Township Schools Superintendent Tracy Handerhan released a statement confirming the rivalry game’s cancellation, saying, “The decision has been made to end the football season and not play the Thanksgiving Day game. We acknowledge that this is difficult news for many in our community. Please be assured that the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is working closely with the Wall High School counseling staff supporting students.”

The situation began after footage seen by some parents allegedly showing a younger Crimson Knights of Wall High School player being hazed with a broomstick by approximately six older members of the school's football team, according to NJ.com.

Members of the team allegedly attempted to pin down the student and threatened to sexually assault the teen with a broom, two parents of students who saw the clip told the outlet. Parents also allege there have been other hazing incidents.

Wall Township Board of Education President Ralph Addonizio confirmed an investigation was launched within the school's football program. Authorities have declined to comment on the matter.

The probe had already canceled last week’s playoff game, and led to three coaches being suspended.

Two days after the apparent hazing came to light, allegations of sexual assault against female students from Wall also surfaced, according to NJ.com.
