Man fatally struck by roommate in head with rock during dispute in NJ: police

PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A man was charged after he allegedly killed his roommate over the weekend after striking him in the back of the head with a rock during a dispute, authorities said.

Raymond Menafield, 40, is charged with murder and two weapons offenses, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday.

According to police, Menafield’s 39-year-old roommate was unresponsive and had a large laceration on his head when responding officers arrived at their apartment located on 12th Avenue near E 16th Street around 6:20 a.m, officials said.

The victim, whose name has yet to be released, was pronounced dead approximately 20 minutes later.

Menafield is being held ahead of a detention hearing, authorities said.

An investigation remains ongoing.
