JAMESBURG, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Jamesburg man was sentenced to 70 years in prison on Friday for setting his house on fire after stabbing his father and family friend to death in 2019.
Jaree Kitchen, 24, had returned from Georgia to live with his father, 53-year-old Clifford Kitchen Jr. and a family friend, 53-year-old Gregory Fisher.
Moving back in started conflict between the father and son, and a physical altercation broke out on Nov. 4, 2019.
The younger Kitchen fatally stabbed his father and Fisher, and burned down the house in an attempt to destroy evidence of the murders two days later.
Police found Kitchen stinking of gasoline holding a bible in the area on the day of the fire.
He told officers he got locked out of the house and spent the night in the woods, but surveillance footage showed him walking toward the house at 1:30 a.m., less than an hour before the fire started.
A jury convicted Kitchen of murder, aggravated arson, desecrating human remains, evidence tampering and weapons charges on June 1.
