BRIDGETON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Law enforcement in Georgia arrested a 29-year-old New Jersey man on Saturday for a fatal shooting in Bridgeton last summer, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ryan Askins shot and killed 36-year-old Herbert Lee Jr.  at the Maplewood Gardens apartment complex on July 30 around 3 a.m., according to authorities.

Police searched for a car seen fleeing the scene of the crime, and Askins was pulled over later that morning. He allegedly fled the traffic stop leading officers on a high-speed chase into oncoming traffic.

Law enforcement reportedly called off the chase due to safety concerns.

U.S. Marshals and the Georgia State Patrol arrested him Saturday.
