FREEHOLD, N.J. (1010 WINS) — An 18-year veteran corrections officer at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution was sentenced to five years in prison for smuggling drugs into the jail, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Saturday.

Bryant Mack, 55, hid drugs in potato chip bags, which he handed over to inmates in exchange for money, according to officials.

His scheme was uncovered on Sept. 4, 2021, when officers found two inmates with synthetic weed, also known as K2 or spice, in their cells.

Mack pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

In addition to the five-year sentence, he will be prohibited from holding a government job in New Jersey upon his release
