DOVER, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- New Jersey officials are reaching out to the public for help in tracking down a person who brutally assaulted a taxi driver.

According to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 13, Dover police responded to Madison Street where they found the driver who was the victim of a violent attack.
The driver, identified as Alfredo Vasquez, transported the suspect for about a half hour before the attack occurred, police said.
Once they reached the destination, the victim’s daughter said her father was beaten with a metal object, passed out and was "left for dead" around Madison Street and Pine Street at about 9:22 p.m.
She said on a GoFundMe for her father, when he awoke 30 minutes later, he called for help. She said that her father has physical disabilities and “couldn’t possibly defend himself.”
The suspect didn’t call for the taxi, but instead was picked up off the street, she said.
In an update posted Wednesday, Vasquez’s daughter said her father was able to breathe on his own in the ICU, and things were beginning to look “promising.”
As of Friday evening, the GoFundMe had raised $26,000, a little more than half of the set goal.
Police said they've identified a person of interest, but didn't release additional info, according to the Daily Record.
Authorities asked anyone who may have information to call Crime Stoppers at 973-COP-CALL or go to their website. They are offering a reward of up to $1,000.
