OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Officials arrested a teacher at a New Jersey elementary school accused of abusing a special needs student, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said Tuesday.
Christine Paduch, 42, a special-education teacher at Madison Park Elementary School in Old Bridge was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, officials said.
Detectives launched an investigation after reports of abuse to an eight-year-old student on Monday. Paduch was arrested that same day, authorities said.
According to a criminal complaint, on Wednesday, April 12, Paduch "grabbed the (child) in an aggressive manner with two hands on the victim's wrist and leg and threw the victim under her desk."
The incident was witnessed by two other Madison Park staff members, officials added.
The boy sustained injuries to his arm, which were photographed. He also said his teacher took his sweatshirt and made him wear it backwards over his face, for reasons not explained in the criminal complaint, prosecutors said.
Paduch had her first appearance in court on Tuesday and was released with conditions, prosecutors added.
An investigation is ongoing.
