HOBOKEN, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A teen was charged with stealing two vehicles in Hoboken last month after they had been left running and unattended, authorities say.

Officials charged 19-year-old Angel Sanabria Jr., of Hoboken, with burglary and theft for the Jan. 23 and Jan. 31 incidents, Hoboken Detective Sgt. Jonathan Mecka said in a report.

Just before 11 p.m. on Jan. 31, Emergency Service Officer Francis McCourt noticed a group of people that appeared to be watching someone in a parking lot located at 321 Harrison St. in Hoboken.

The group walked away as they were approached by McCourt, but he then saw a male rummaging through a car, Mecka said.

Before approaching the male, who was later identified as Sanabria, McCourt called in for backup officers.

McCourt was aware that Sanabria had a potentially outstanding warrant for the car theft that happened the previous week.

The vehicle Sanabria was in had just been reported stolen by its owner, authorities said.

Sanabria was arrested for being inside the vehicle and taking items from the vehicle.

Prior to it being stolen, the vehicle was left in the vicinity of Fourth and Jefferson Streets, leading to Sanabria’s arrest, Mecka said.

According to Mecka, the additional charges stemmed from an investigation by Detective Michael Losurdo that identified Sanabria as the suspect in the Jan. 23 theft on Washington Street between 1st and 2nd street.

In the Jan. 23 incident, Losurdo identified Sanabria as the suspect of a stolen car that had been left running and unattended at First and Washington streets, Mecka said.

The vehicle owners were issued a citation in connection to the thefts for illegally leaving a vehicle running and unattended.
