About 200 students from Haddonfield Memorial High School had their commencement ceremony on June 21 at the school’s stadium. School officials said after graduation many went on to attend a party which ended around 11:30 p.m.

At a school board meeting, District Superintendent Chuck Klaus said surveillance video captured students entering the stadium around 11:35 p.m.

Around 150 people came to the field where they were seen on camera partying and trashing the stadium. The group also went into the restrooms where they caused about $2,500 in damage to the facilities.

The next day, eighth graders arrived for their promotion ceremony rehearsal where they discovered the mess with beer cans and bottles thrown all over the field, according to Kraus.

Some reports from joggers in the area at 6 a.m. said the party was still going on, Klaus added, and the district continues to take the matter seriously.

“We’ve been in contact with the police. We have given them the videos,” Klaus said. “We have supplied names of any students we could identify. We will press charges … they trespassed and vandalized.”

Parents of the former students were notified via email about the incident. Klaus said that a few students have apologized and offered to help.

It remains unclear whether any of the teens were charged yet.
