JERSEY CITY (1010 WINS) — Officials charged a NJ Transit bus driver after he fired a stolen gun at three teenagers who allegedly assaulted him outside of a bus in Jersey City over the weekend, authorities said.
The shooting happened at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday at Monticello and Jewett avenues, Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, a city spokeswoman, said Sunday.
Charles Fieros, 48, was arrested after being treated at Jersey City Medical Center for head and face injuries from the initial assault.
The charges against him include attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a handgun and receiving stolen property.
Police also recovered a handgun, which had been reported stolen, Wallace-Scalcione added.
City officials determined that three teen males reportedly assaulted Fieros while he was outside a bus.
The driver then “retrieved an illegal handgun and shot at the group of males who had allegedly assaulted him,” Wallace-Scalcione noted.
A 15-year-old boy was struck and transported to Jersey City Medical Center.
He was believed to have three gunshot wounds to the abdomen and is in critical, but stable condition.
An investigation remains ongoing.
