NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Nassau County police detective shot a 39-year-old man in his Copiague home at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday after the man allegedly ran at them with a knife, police said.

The officers said they went to the man’s home to interview him about a previous incident that took place in Nassau County.

The man, whose identity has not been released by police, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

The Suffolk County homicide squad is investigating the shooting, because Copiague is in Suffolk County not Nassau County.
