The rapper, whose legal name is William Junior Maxwell II, was inside the airport when police were suddenly alerted to an ankle monitor that he had on, according to TMZ.

It remains unclear what caused the monitor to go off, or if Fetty Wap, who is a native of New Jersey, had permission to be at the airport.

TMZ reports that when police ran the 30-year-old rapper’s information, they discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest, and he was taken into custody.

No details of the warrant were available, but TMZ reports it may have been for a public nuisance-related incident in North Bergen.

TMZ reported Fetty Wap posted bail and was later released.

The arrest follows an incident earlier this year, when Fetty Wap was arrested on federal drug charges at Citi Field.

According to those charges, six men, including the rapper, allegedly participated in transporting, distributing and selling more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine across Long Island and New Jersey from June 2019 to June 2020.

The indictment accused Fetty Wap of being a kilogram-level redistributor. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $500,000 bond in November.

TMZ speculated the rapper may have been wearing the ankle monitor on Friday as a result of his November release.

Fetty Wap was also arrested on assault charges in Las Vegas in 2019 and drunk driving charges in Brooklyn in 2017.
