NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A motor scooter operator died Saturday after hitting the rear tires of a fuel truck on a New Jersey road, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

The victim was riding the scooter on the westbound ramp for Route 495 when it collided with the passenger side rear tires of a fuel truck around 3:45 p.m., according to Suarez.

Investigators said the unidentified man collided with the rear passenger side tires of the Freightliner fuel truck as the motor-scooter attempted to merge onto the westbound ramp near the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and 32nd Street.

The victim was pronounced dead by authorities after the crash, the prosecutor said.

The fuel truck did not remain at the scene but was located nearby, along with the operator. No arrests have been made at this time.

An investigation is ongoing.
