Search for possibly rabid fox forces NJ state park to close for 2nd day

LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- A New Jersey park was closed for a second day on Tuesday as officials continue to search for a potentially rabid fox, officials said.

Double Trouble State Park in located in Lacey and Berkeley townships remained closed Tuesday out of an "abundance of caution," state officials said.

Officials said the fox was "behaving erratically and has been involved in encounters with visitors," officials said.

Officials didn't disclose whether the fox had hurt any people or animals.

“New Jersey Fish and Wildlife is taking steps to address the situation, the state Department of Environmental Protection said in a statement.

On Monday, officials said the park would temporarily shut down so that the fox can be trapped.
