NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One person died when a Long Island Rail Road train collided with a vehicle at a crossing, authorities said Monday night.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the train from Hunters Point Avenue heading to Montauk struck a vehicle at the South Bay Avenue crossing in Patchogue, officials said.

The crash prompted Long Island Rail Road service to be suspended for several hours in both directions on the Montauk line.

An investigation is ongoing.
