
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Officials arrested two men accused of stealing mail from mailboxes on Long Island, authorities announced Tuesday.
Detectives launched an ongoing investigation of larcenies occurring outside of the United States Postal Service located at 1000 Front St. in Uniondale, police said.
At 3:05 a.m. on Monday, March 27, officers observed Anthony Yard Jr., 24, of Fresh Meadows and Kamal Joseph, 29, of Elmont removing mail from inside of the mailboxes before fleeing southbound on Newport Avenue on foot.
A short time later, Joseph was located in the rear of the post office and Yard was located in a rear alley on Uniondale Avenue.
Both men were taken into police custody without further incident.
Both Yard and Joseph are being charged with one count of grand larceny, one count of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. They will be arraigned on Tuesday at the First District Court in Hempstead.
