
BAY SHORE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Three Long Island kids — ages 10, 12 and 14 — were killed over the weekend when they were rear-ended on a Florida highway, officials said Monday.
The collision happened at 7:40 a.m. Saturday southbound on Interstate 95 near the Florida-Georgia border.
A sedan occupied by four children and two adults from Bay Shore were traveling over the bridge that separates Florida and Georgia when they slowed down "for unknown reasons" and were struck from behind by an SUV, according to the Florida State Highway Patrol.
A 10-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy died in the crash, police said.
The 24-year-old man driving the sedan suffered serious injuries. His two surviving passengers, a 47-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy suffered critical injuries, a Florida State Highway Patrol accident report said.
The a 23-year-old man driving the SUV, from Apex, North Carolina "was unable to react in time," the report added.
He suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
