NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Mayor Eric Adams endorsed New York Attorney General Letitia James as she seeks reelection to the post—days after he was seen dining with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in the wake of a sexual harassment investigation overseen by James.

James’ campaign released a statement from Adams on Sunday in which he said the state’s top prosecutor has “distinguished herself nationally through her successful fights for justice, but she never lost the get stuff done attitude that embodies her hometown Brooklyn.”
“She has the courage and experience to stand up to anyone who breaks the law and harms vulnerable people, no matter how powerful they may be,” Adams continued. “I am proud to endorse Attorney General James for re-election and urge all New Yorkers to join me [in] supporting our champion for justice.”
James responded to Adams’ endorsement in a tweet, writing that “New Yorkers know they can count on me to fight for them, even when faced with powerful obstacles, and I'm looking forward to working with our Mayor to continue to deliver for New Yorkers.”
The mayor’s endorsement came days after he was spotted dining with Cuomo, who resigned last August following the release of a report by James’ office that found he sexually harassed 11 women, allegations he denies.
There had been speculation that Cuomo may seek to challenge James in her bid for reelection, but his spokesman, Rich Azzopardi, said last week that he doesn’t plan to.
James briefly joined the 2022 governor’s race last fall but ultimately dropped out to pursue reelection as AG.
