NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Andrew Giuliani said he's "heavily considering" a run for governor of New York next year.
“I plan to run,” Giuliani told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday.
Andrew Giuliani was a top aide to former President Donald Trump. He’s the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is Trump’s lawyer.
A gubernatorial run could pit Giuliani, 35, against Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has previously said he plans to seek a fourth term.
Cuomo has been dogged by controversies, including sexual harassment allegations and an investigation into New York state’s response to COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes. He has denied the allegations.
“Outside of anybody named Trump, I think I have the best chance to win and take the state back,” Giuliani told the Washington Examiner.
“And I think there's an opportunity in 2022 with a wounded Democratic candidate, whether it's going to be Gov. (Andrew) Cuomo, whether it's going to be a radical (state Attorney General) Letitia James, whether it's going to be a no-name lieutenant governor, I think there's a very, very real chance to win,” Giuliani said.
A former Trump aide told the Washington Examiner that “Trump and the Make America Great Again movement will back Giuliani.”
