ULSTER, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A young girl from Brooklyn died after the SUV she was in flipped during a police pursuit in the Hudson Valley this week, police said.

Monica Goods, 11, was in the passenger seat of a 2017 Dodge Journey when police tried to pull over the vehicle’s driver for a traffic violation in Ulster around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said that instead of stopping, the 39-year-old driver, Tristan Goods, fled the scene, sparking a pursuit on I-87.

The SUV and a state police car collided in the area of mile marker 93.6, causing Goods to lose control of the vehicle, which overturned, police said.

Monica Goods was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and suffered fatal injuries, according to police, who said the 11-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tristan Goods, who is also from New York City, suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Kingston Hospital before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center.

While they share a last name, the relationship between the girl and the driver wasn’t immediately known.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
