NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Cynthia Nixon flirted with politics in 2018 when she threw herself in the New York governor's race to take on then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, but the 55-year-old New York City native isn't planning another run at office.
"No… I ran for office against Andrew Cuomo because I didn’t think he should be our governor, and nobody else would run or could run, because if you were in politics [he was a] notoriously vindictive man. You couldn’t run against him in politics… without having your career ended," Nixon told Extra at the premiere of "And Just Like That...," the "Sex and the City" 10-episode revival which premiered Thursday on HBO Max.

Nixon, 55, continued, "Luckily, we ran and 90% of our platform has been enacted since we ran, and he is now out of office, so everything and more that I was hoping to be accomplished has been accomplished."
In a video announcing her candidacy in March 2018, Nixon said, "I’ve never lived anywhere else. But something has to change. We want our government to work again, on health care, ending mass incarceration, fixing our broken subway. We are sick of politicians who care more about headlines and power than they do about us. It can’t just be business as usual anymore."
Nixon and other potential Democratic challengers to Cuomo were eliminated from the Democratic party endorsement at the state Democratic Convention in May 2018 after failing to meet the 25% state delegate threshold needed to appear on the ballot.
