
WOODMERE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Long Island officials arrested a man for an "elderly scam" after he was hired for home repairs, authorities announced Friday.
Police said Kenneth McConnell received financial payment from a 61-year-old woman for plumbing, HVAC and electrical work that was never performed.
During the investigation, it was determined McConnell removed jewelry from the woman's home and sold it to a local pawn shop.
McConnell also deposited fraudulent checks into his personal bank account, belonging to the victim from her account without her knowledge or permission, authorities said.
The total value taken from the victim is approximately $420,000 dollars.
The crime allegedly occurred between Jan. 6, 2020, and Dec. 23, 2021, in Woodmere.
McConnell is facing several grand larceny charges as well as criminal possession of a forged instrument and identity theft.
His arraignment is set for Friday.
