Around 5 a.m. at the Tappan Zee Hotel at 110 North Rt. 303 in West Nyack, the victim was taking a shower when her 46-year-old husband, Todd Humphrey, allegedly hit her over the head with what she said was a hammer.

The woman escaped the room and was able to get help from hotel staff who called 911 while Humphrey fled the scene, police said.

Officers sent out an alert to be on the lookout for Humphrey and his vehicle. Around 1:30 p.m., Humphrey was seen on the New York State Parkway in Putnam County, officials said.

Humphrey led police on a chase before crashing his car on Rt. 84 in Newburgh. He and a passenger with him sustained minor injuries from the crash. Humphrey was then arrested at the scene.

Cops charged Humphrey with attempted murder and assault with additional charges pending.
