NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York kids who get vaccinated against COVID-19 can enter a drawing to win a full-ride scholarship to a SUNY or CUNY institution, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday.

The “Vaccinate, Educate, Graduate” incentive comes as thousands of children between the ages of 5 and 11 begin rolling up their sleeves for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.
As part of the incentive, parents or legal guardians of any New Yorker between 5 and 11 years old who has received at least one vaccine dose can enter their child for a chance to win one of 50 four-year, full-ride scholarships to any two-year or four-year state public college or university.
“Tuition, fees, room and board—the whole nine yards,” Hochul said during a coronavirus briefing at the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center.
“So if one of your children win this, you should probably take them to Disney World,” the governor quipped. “You’ll have extra money now. You don’t have to be saving for college.”
Ten winners will be announced weekly beginning Wednesday, Nov. 24, for five consecutive weeks.
Parents or legal guardians of vaccinated kids can enter them into the drawing by going to governor.ny.gov/nysvaccineincentive or by calling 1-833-697-4829.
Hochul said the state has over 700,000 vaccine doses for kids, including 300,000 for New York City and more than 400,000 for the rest of the state.
“Half of the population of children in this age group (5-11), we already have the doses ready to administer, and we’re ready to get more as soon as we need them,” the governor said.
