NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state lawmakers on Friday voted to strip Gov. Andrew Cuomo of some of his COVID-19-related emergency powers amid two major scandals.
The New York State Assembly approved legislation limiting Cuomo's powers Friday night, hours after the New York State Senate signed off on the measure.
"#NYSenate Bill S5357, sponsored by Majority Leader and President Pro Tempore @AndreaSCousins, passed (43-20, unofficial). Relates to the termination of certain executive powers by the legislature," the New York Senate posted on Twitter.
Three women have accused Cuomo of sexual harassment within the past two weeks. The governor's administration has also been accused of trying to cover up the number of nursing home residents who died of COVID-19 at the height of the pandemic.
Earlier this week, Cuomo said that he was "embarrassed" by the sexual harassment allegations and apologized for acting “in a way that made people feel uncomfortable,” but announced that he would not resign.
