Officials investigate LI house fire that killed woman, 80, injured 2 others

SEAFORD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Nassau County officials are investigating a house fire early Tuesday, that killed one woman and injured two others, including a firefighter, authorities said.

Arson/Bomb Squad Detectives and Fire Marshals responded to the blaze at the residence located at 2464 Riverside Ave. in Seaford at about 6:15 a.m., officials said.

Upon arrival, officers observed the house fully engulfed in flames, detectives said.

Approximately 70 firefighters from the Seaford, Wantagh, Bellmore and Massapequa Fire Departments responded to the scene and extinguished the flames, authorities said.

One firefighter sustained a burn injury from the fire and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

An 80-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Her 60-year-old daughter suffered smoke inhalation and was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
