FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian on Long Island Sunday night, authorities said.

According to officials, at 7:40 p.m., a driver was driving a 2022 Mercedes-Benz northbound on North Ocean Avenue at Granny Road in Farmingville when he swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting Ronald Degroff, 58, who was running east across the roadway at the intersection against the direction.

The Mercedes struck Degroff, who was then struck by a 2021 Hyundai Sonata, police said.

Degroff was transported to Long Island Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
