Pedestrian on LI highway fatally struck by SUV

NESCONSET, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian Thursday night, authorities said.

At approximately 9 p.m., a 27-year-old woman was driving a 2005 Honda CRV on eastbound Nesconset Highway, east of Terry Road, when her vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway, detectives said.

The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver wasn’t injured, according to police, who haven’t announced any charges in the case.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
