Suspect barricades self in NJ home after shooting detective: prosecutor

LONG BRANCH, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey detective was shot in an incident the preceded a standoff Friday evening, officials said.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the detective sustained a lower-body gunshot wound after the encounter with the suspect in Long Branch on Friday.

Long Branch’s director of public safety said the detective was shot amid a police investigation, according to NJ.com.

The detective was brought to a hospital, where they’ve since been released.

The prosecutor’s office then said Friday night that there was a situation involving a barricaded suspect on Chelsea Avenue in Long Branch.

"There is a significant police presence at that location. We are asking that members of the public and media stay clear of the area for now," the prosecutor's office tweeted.

Police said no shots have been fired by police at this point.
