KEANSBURG, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- A hostage situation at a New Jersey pharmacy reportedly left a suspect dead and a police officer hurt.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the confrontation at the Keansburg Pharmacy, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. Authorities have not said how the officer was hurt or disclosed further details on the incident.
Keansburg Mayor George Hoff confirmed a fatal police-involved shooting occurred following a hostage situation, and the suspect involved is dead, according to the report.
At least one officer was injured and taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.
The suspect hasn’t been identified.
The state Police Benevolent Association recognized the officer involved in the shooting Thursday, tweeting, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the wounded Keansburg officer this afternoon. The dangers of our work are constant."
