Man dies after pulled from ocean at Jersey Shore beach

BELMAR, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A young man died shortly after he was pulled from the ocean in Belmar, New Jersey on Monday, police said.

Emergency crews rushed off to the area near the 8th Avenue beach jetty following several distressed swimmer reports around 12:30 p.m., the Belmar Police Department said.

Lifeguards on duty rescued an unspecified number of swimmers. One was taken to a local hospital for treatment and responders soon learned that another swimmer remained missing. The responders launched a search effort.

Rescue crews found the missing swimmer, a man in his 20s, around 1:20 p.m., and he died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, according to police.

“A full investigation into the nature of the incident is ongoing,” the department statement said.
