Thief busted for stealing items from LA Fitness lockers across Suffolk: police

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A man was arrested on Wednesday for stealing items from multiple LA Fitness locker rooms across Suffolk County in the past five weeks, police said.

Since January, police have received reports of credit cards and wallets being stolen from lockers at fitness centers across the county, both locked and unlocked.

Following an investigation, Carl Francois was arrested during a traffic stop on Carleton Avenue in Central Islip around 1:15 p.m.

The 56-year-old was charged with 27 counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny.

Francois is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
