NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A vandal broke into a Sikh temple on Long Island and spray painted slurs and other phrases, police said Wednesday.

The intruder leaned a ladder against the temple on the Jericho Turnpike, near Cherry Lane in Floral Park Center, at some point between Monday and Tuesday evening and climbed through a window, Nassau County police said.

After breaking into the temple, the intruder used black spray paint to scrawl “bias slurs” and religious words on its roof and windows, as well as a fence, the department said.

The vandalism is being investigated as a bias incident, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
