FLANDERS, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — The Flanders Big Duck lighting ceremony on Wednesday has been postponed due to storms and high winds on Long Island, officials announced.

"While ducks may love the weather," the Suffolk County Parks Department said in a Facebook post Wednesday, the rescheduled ceremony will take place Thursday at 7 p.m.

It's a tradition akin to the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting, with Long Island's own version lit up every year in a ceremony with a wreath and lights.

However, that Manhattan holiday institution will go ahead as planned Wednesday night.
