NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Phil Murphy has been one of the Garden State's most vocal proponents of legalizing marijuana for recreational use in the state, but now that it's finally happening beginning Thursday, will he partake in the mind-altering substance?

“I’ll answer it this way: It’s never been an animating thing for me,” the Democratic governor responded during an unrelated event in Ewing on Monday. “If we were legalizing Scotch, I would show up with a shopping cart. This has not been my thing.”
While Murphy may claim marijuana isn't his thing, he said he's definitely glad the legislation passed.
"I think relieved is the best way to describe how I feel about this," he said. "At long last."
After all, he said, "We’re not inventing marijuana — it's there. The question is who’s controlling the industry, who’s going to control the quality, health, safety."
