CRASH: Woman ODs on LI parkway, responding trooper exposed to opioids; both hospitalized

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island woman was arrested Thursday after she allegedly crashed her car on the Wantagh State Parkway while driving high and exposed a trooper to opioids.

According to New York State Police, troopers arrived shortly after 1:15 p.m. on a report of an "erratic operator" traveling southbound on the parkway in Hempstead near the Hempstead Turnpike.

Troopers responded within minutes and found the vehicle disabled due to a crash. Jaqueline Ann Morales, 35, was unresponsive and exhibiting signs of an opioid overdose, police said.

The troopers administered Narcan, and Morales was taken to Nassau University Medical Center.

While troopers were investigating the crash, police said one started having symptoms of what was believed to be opioid exposure. The trooper was administered Narcan and taken to the same hospital.

Morales was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
