NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Yonkers man who hit a woman and her infant in his car while drunk driving before crashing into a storefront pled guilty Tuesday to aggravated vehicular assault, Westchester District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced.

Last July, just before 8:30 a.m, 44-year-old David Poncurak crashed into a woman holding her infant child on a Yonkers sidewalk, throwing them to the hood of his car before crashing into a barbershop on Lake Avenue, officials said.
Both victims were trapped under the vehicle until Yonkers Police and bystanders lifted the car off of them, authorities said.
At the time of the crash, Poncurak had a blood alcohol level of .13 and illegal drugs in his system, police said.
Both mom and baby were transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. The mother underwent surgery for a fractured femur while the infant suffered a fractured skull and severe burns.
“David Poncurak recklessly got behind the wheel of his car after drinking heavily and using illegal narcotics and placed a mother and her daughter in extreme peril,” DA Rocah said. “I am thankful for the heroic actions of the Yonkers Police Department, the bystanders, and the ambulance crew. Because of them, the victims are alive and healing today. We will continue to vigorously prosecute unlawful and dangerous drivers to keep Westchester’s roads safer for all.”
Along with aggravated vehicular assault, Poncurak was charged with several misdemeanors. He was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 2 ½ to 7 ½ years in state prison.
