This week we recognize Loretta Lynch.
Loretta Lynch was born on May 21, 1959. She was the 83rd Attorney General of the United States from 2015 - 2017. President Barack Obama appointed her to succeed Eric Holder. Prior to that she served as the United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1999 - 2001 and then again from 2010 - 2015. During her time in this role she managed federal prosecutions in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Long Island.
Loretta Lynch graduated from Harvard Law School. She practiced law in New York before becoming a federal prosecutor in 1990. After some time in private practice, she returned as the top district prosecutor. Between 2003 and 2005, she served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Loretta Lynch was the first African-America n woman to be confirmed for the position of Attorney General.
