As part of his new ESPN contract, Troy Aikman will make more money over the next five years than he did during his Hall of Fame NFL career.
Aikman -- per Andrew Marchand of The New York Post -- will earn $90 million as part of a five-year deal to leave FOX for ESPN, where he will become the color commentator on Monday Night Football.

Within the first four years of that deal, Aikman will surpass his career earnings as a player. Spotrac says that Aikman -- who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft -- made $55.537 million during his NFL career.
Granted, concussions and a back injury cut Aikman's playing career to just 12 seasons. But he still helped the Cowboys to win three Super Bowl titles during a career that ultimately ended with him being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. For him to end up making significantly more money as a broadcaster than a quarterback gives you an idea of how money in the sport has ballooned over the last 25 years.
Aikman heads to ESPN after 21 seasons on FOX, 20 of which came next to Joe Buck on the network's lead broadcast team. It remains to be seen who Aikman will be paired with now that's he's joined the four-letter network.
